College of Medicine Univeristy of Arizona

The Comprehensive Education Center (CEC) is a newly formed academic support department under the U of A's College of Medicine. I designed and built the first dedicated website for the College of Medicine, creating a clear, scalable digital foundation for students, faculty, and external audiences

Website Design and UI/UX

The Problem & Opportunity

The College of Medicine needed a dedicated website that could clearly represent its programs, people, and academic mission. There was no centralized, structured digital experience that served all audiences in one place.

Key challenges included:

  • No existing website structure to build from

  • Multiple audiences with very different needs (students, faculty, applicants)

  • Large amounts of academic content that needed organization

  • Requirement to align with University of Arizona brand standards while creating something distinct for the College of Medicine

This project was an opportunity to build a website from the ground up defining structure, navigation, and visual language from scratch.

Strategy & Design Approach

I began by defining the core audiences and their primary goals. Prospective students needed clear program information. Current students needed access to resources. Faculty and staff needed departmental visibility and credibility.

My design approach focused on:

  • Creating a clear information hierarchy from day one

  • Designing modular layouts that could scale as the college grows

  • Prioritizing readability and accessibility for academic content

  • Ensuring mobile usability for students accessing the site on the go

  • Keeping the design clean, professional, and aligned with UA branding

I translated these goals into wireframes and page structures before moving into visual design.

After finalizing the designs, I built the website from scratch, turning the visual system into a fully functional experience.

Key execution details:

  • Built responsive templates to support multiple content types

  • Designed flexible page sections for future updates by internal teams

  • Ensured consistency across all pages and departments

  • Optimized layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile

  • Collaborated with stakeholders to refine content placement and messaging

The focus was on creating a site that looked polished at launch and remained easy to maintain long-term.

The final website gave the College of Medicine a strong, centralized digital presence for the first time.

Results:

  • A clear and professional website representing the College of Medicine

  • Improved discoverability of programs, resources, and departments

  • A scalable structure that supports future growth and content updates

  • A consistent experience across all devices

This project strengthened my ability to design and build complete web experiences from zero balancing structure, usability, and institutional requirements.
